Our Aim

In Cross River, Nigeria, many farmers carry their children on their backs and walk 9 miles to the farm. During this time, the child remains on their backs, crying and distressed—but many parents are unaware of the need to stop and give the child a drink or comfort.

These children are exposed to harsh weather—the rain beats down on them, and the sun scorches them as they lie on the farm field. Sometimes, dangerous reptiles crawl close by, and there have even been snake bites that have led to serious injuries or even death because the babies are left to crawl on the field.

I want to make a change—for these children and their parents—by providing a safe environment for toddlers and babies while their mothers work on the farm.

The Impact

1. It can reduce back pain for women.

2. It can help increase productivity, so farmers can feed both local communities and the international market.

3. It empowers women to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle in their communities.

4. It keeps children safe, in an environment with toys, food, play areas, and dedicated childminders.

Girls’ Football Team

Mrs. Raywood also introduced a girls’ football team. Her aim is to encourage young girls to think positively and avoid early pregnancy. She is training the girls to become professional footballers—so that one day, they can play outside their community, and hopefully, represent the world.

Women’s football is growing and becoming powerful. I want my girls to be part of it too.

“I’ve seen mothers working tirelessly, their children crying from discomfort, hungry and exposed to the harsh weather. Some children have even lost their lives from snake bites in the fields. I knew we had to do something to protect these women and their babies.”

The Problem.

– Why Lapfojos Foundation Exists.

Mothers in Pain, Children in Danger.

In the remote village of Yala, generations of women have carried their babies on their backs while working under the hot sun in the fields. They bend over for hours, enduring severe back pain from carrying heavy loads of cassava and yams, all while struggling to keep their babies safe from heat exhaustion, insect bites, and dangerous farm conditions.

A Community in Need of Medical Awareness

In Yala, sudden deaths are often attributed to witchcraft, when in reality, many of these tragedies result from undiagnosed health conditions like hypertension and diabetes. People continue to suffer in silence because they lack access to basic healthcare services and do not realize that early detection could save their lives.

“When my mother passed away suddenly from cardiac arrest, it opened my eyes. I saw how many people were suffering from preventable conditions, simply because they didn’t have access to screenings and medical advice. That’s when I knew I had to act.”

Giving Young Girls a Better Future

With no schools, no social activities, and little exposure to the outside world, young girls in Yala often find themselves in early marriages or unplanned pregnancies, simply because they don’t see another path.

“Many of these girls have so much potential, but they don’t believe they can be anything more than housewives or farmers. When I built a football pitch in my village, I saw something change. Suddenly, girls had something to look forward to. They dreamed of becoming professional players, of traveling to Europe, of building better futures for themselves.” – Mrs. Raywood
